Senior Lecturer in Education
specializing in Special Education
The Department of Education is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences with about 110 employees. We teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Education, Sports Pedagogy, Leadership and Organisation and Special Education and have extensive assignments in the School of Education at Umeå University. We are also engaged in a large number of programmes, e.g. the Sports Science Programme, the Human Resource Management Programme and the Police Education Programme.

The post is a part of a major effort to strengthen the area of Special Education in the Department of Education and therefore includes time for research to a considerable extent in the first four years. The holder of the post will lead the development of the area of Special Education in the Department, conduct research on her/his own, teach and supervise in the postgraduate studies and participate in the undergraduate education. An important duty is to regularly apply actively for external research funding. Within the framework of this effort we plan to advertise one more senior lectureship and a doctoral studentship in 2012.
To be qualified for employment as a senior lecturer, applicants are required to have a doctor’s degree, have completed a course in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, and demonstrated educational skills. Equal importance will be attached to the assessment of educational skills and the assessment of scientific skills.
In addition importance is attached to skills in developing and managing activities and staff and ability to cooperate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work. Great importance will be attached to personal aptitude, where, among other things, interviews will be used as an assessment instrument.
For this lectureship we will only consider persons with qualifications required for appointment as a docent.
Scientific skills are demonstrated through publications, documented experience of building up and developing research environments, documented national and international research collaboration and documented ability to obtain research funding in competition.
