Associate Professor in theoretical physics

KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.
The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as physics and mathematics, to engineering mechanics with applications such as aeronautics and vehicle engineering. We also offer University degree programs in Engineering Physics, Vehicle Engineering, 'Engineering and Education', and 'Open Entrance', as well as a number of International Masters Programmes.
The research at the department of theoretical physics is concentrated to three areas, condensed matter, biological physics and particle/mathematical physics. The position will be within condensed matter were the applicant is supposed to build his/her own activity but also to cooperate with other teachers .
Successful candidates will be part of KTH’s Tenure Track-system, being provided with career support.

Subject description
The subject includes theory, modelling and numerical calculations for condensed matter directed towards statistical physics of quantum fluids.
Duties
The duties contain research and teaching at basic, advanced and research level and supervision of research and post-doctoral students, to apply for external funding of research projects and take responsibility for administrative duties and leadership assignments..
Eligibility requirements
Persons eligible for employment as Associate Professor are those who have been awarded a doctor´s degree, or possess scientific expertise of a corresponding nature or other professional abilities relevant to the subject content and tasks required by the post in question. Personal pedagogical ability must have been demonstrated. Particular criteria of assessment will be the applicant’s ability to apply, receive funding for and develop research projects and ability to lead education and research activities.
Assessment criteria
Documented scientific, pedagogic and administrative ability within the subject area as well as leadership ability is required. Equal care will be devoted to judging the scientific and pedagogical abilities. Special weight will be given to scientific ability within the subject area and to ability to initiate, lead and finance research projects with substantial international impact. Of importance for the employment is also ability to contribute to teaching with the subject area at basic as well as advanced and research level and ability to supervise research and post-doctoral students.
