The University Medical Center Groningen is offering young, talented researchers, tenure track scientist positions. These staff members are expected to develop their own line of research within a particular field. If successful in obtaining predetermined academic goals, a tenure track can lead to a full professorship. Ample opportunities for professional developments and supplementary training and education are offered.

The candidate is expected to lead a new independent research group for the development and application of (nano)biomaterials and bioorganic hybrid structures in a clinical setting. The new materials will be developed for infection control and will be evaluated with respect to their in vitro and in vivo behavior. The candidate will closely collaborate with a tenure tracker who is doing the biomedical evaluations of the materials (see below).
The candidate is expected to build up a leading international research group in this field based to a large extent on external funding. He/she is an excellent teacher who can motivate students of different disciplines and will develop new courses on specific topics about this subject in the BSc and the MSc programs. Teaching duties include the supervision of bachelor, master and PhD students.

Tenure Track position in Clinical Applications of Bio- and Nanomaterials at the FWN

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is offering young, talented researchers, tenure track assistant professor positions. These staff members are expected to develop their own line of research within a particular field. The faculty's career policy is characterized by flexible personnel management with a focus on the individual. Academic achievements are seen as being central to the academic career, and ample opportunities for professional developments and supplementary training and education are offered. Arrangements for training in the area of teaching will be made with all new employees.

The policy is directed at increasing the number of women in academic staff positions. Career advancement policies for women will also be improved, and women will be actively encouraged to develop their careers.

The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a maximum of 6 years. On completion of 5 years of employment there will be an assessment of performance based on established criteria including research and teaching qualifications. If the outcome of the assessment is positive, the assistant professor will be promoted to the rank of associate professor with tenure. At the end of a further 4-7 year period there will be another assessment aimed at a promotion to full professor.

Job description
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a vacancy for a tenure track assistant professor in Clinical Applications of Bio- and Nanomaterials in the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials.
The candidate is expected to lead a new independent research group for the evaluation and application of (nano)biomaterials and bioorganic hybrid structures in a clinical setting, working in close cooperation with the W.J. Kolff Institute of the UMCG (see above).
The applicant should build up a leading international research group in this field based to a large extent on external funding. He/she is an excellent teacher who can motivate students of different disciplines and will develop new courses on specific topics about this subject in the BSc and the MSc programmes. Requirements

The candidate for UMCG should have a doctorate in the field of polymer chemistry or a closely related field.
He/she has at least two years of international experience (postdoctoral) and a track record of outstanding research and is internationally recognized, with publications in leading journals. He/she has excellent organizational and teaching skills; is fluent in English and is willing to learn the Dutch language. Experience in the acquisition of research funds is necessary.

The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. This means that you must have built up sufficient protection against Hepatitis B before you can be appointed. A vaccination regimen is offered by UMCG in case the candidate of choice is not properly protected.

The candidate for FWN should have a doctorate in the field of medical biology, pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering, or a closely related field and should be licensed to initiate and carry out animal experiments ("Artikel 9" license) or willing to obtain this license. He/she has at least two years of international experience (postdoctoral) and a track record of outstanding research and is internationally recognized, with publications in leading journals. He/she has excellent organizational and teaching skills; is fluent in English and is willing to learn the Dutch language. Experience in the acquisition of research funds is necessary.

 

Conditions of employment

The UMCG offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience from € 3,312 up to a maximum of € 5,171 (scale 11/12, CAO-UMC) gross per month for a full-time position.

The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience from € 3,195 up to a maximum of € 4,970 (scale 11/12, CAO-NU) gross per month for a full-time position.
