University of Gothenburg invites applications for a new position as Full Professor in the area of Interaction Design and Visualization. The position is a tenured position at the Department of Applied Information Technology. The department is integrated between University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology and has more than 80 faculty members. Specific subject description

The holder of the position will play a leading role in the establishment of a strong research center with a multi disciplinary and broad focus on visualization. The research should explore use of computational power to present information to users in the most suitable way, and supporting them in interactively exploring it. Research on visualization is highly multidisciplinary with connections to cognitive science, design research, humanities, medicine, natural science, social science, and technology. The department especially encourages applicants with an interest in any of the research areas of Interactive Visualization, Embodied Virtual Agents, Multi Modal Interfaces, Social Signal Processing, Tangible and Tabletop Interaction or Ubiquitous Computing. The department has an extensive collaboration with the local industry and government agencies through the knowledge arena Center of Visualization Göteborg. A new Imaging and Intervention Centre at Sahlgrenska University Hospital will be opened in 2015 and will offer opportunities for cooperation. Researchers at the department are also active in the interdisciplinary research center SCCIIL, the research centers SAFER and URBSEC, and the Interactive Institute.

 

 

Job assignments

The position involves research, education and academic leadership, and is a key position in the creation of a visualization center at the highest international level. The duties include initiating and leading research projects, developing and actively participating in education, as well as maintaining and developing collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within and outside the institution.

 

 

Eligibility

The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

Applicants should have received a doctoral degree in research focused upon interaction design or corresponding scientific competence of importance for the position and the tasks involved. Documented ability to attain external research funding, an extensive record of international publications in relevant areas, and preferably also experience in coordinating research lab or a research group are further requirements. The successful applicant should have an established international network of cooperation.

Applicants are required to have attended courses and/or seminars in university teaching or to have acquired the corresponding knowledge in other ways, and show good teaching ability. Applicants must be able to teach in English. Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous but not necessary. The holder of the position is expected to learn Swedish within three years.

Assessment

Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

In the evaluation of applicants attention will be paid both to ability in research and teaching in equal amounts. Academic leadership, administrative competence and experience of coordination of research will be considered.

The applicant is expected to have research publications at the highest international level. Ability in research should be demonstrated through independent research publications and through planning and coordinating research.

Documented ability in teaching should be shown through broad and solid knowledge in the area of interaction design. Teaching ability should also be shown through the ability to structure and organize education, the ability to guide students to learning, the ability to renew and develop the content and form of education and a record of successful supervision of thesis work.

Administrative skills and management experience should be shown in documented experience of developing, organizing, and leading activities and people. Further, it is an advantage to have documented experience in interdisciplinary work and cooperation with industry and/or the public sector in areas related to interaction design.

The applicant is expected to be an active part of the faculty and research community, and live in the Gothenburg area.
