Job description
The Institute of Industrial Technology and Management (ITM) has a vacancy for a Full Professor in Advanced Production Engineering (tenured position). The candidate is expected to initiate new research in the area of production engineering with emphasis on mechanical engineering, dealing with optimization of the production and manufacturing process via engineering research. The emphasis of the research areas is shared with partners in Production Technology and Logistics, such as in the field of Systems and Control Engineering, Operations Research, Flexible Manufacturing and Material Science.

The candidate will chair the new Advanced Production Engineering group and play an active role within ITM and in the organization of educational activities. The candidate is expected to build up a strong research group with a leading international position in this field. We expect an active attitude towards (inter)national networking. Teaching duties include the supervision of BSc and MSc students in Industrial Engineering and Management (lEM) and PhD students in the framework of the Groningen Graduate School of Science.

Requirements
The candidate should have a proven track record in one or a combination of relevant research areas to the science and technology of production engineering. These include, but are not limited to meso/micro/nano fabrication, advanced assembly and manufacturing processes, advanced embossing, casting, forming, coating and molding processes at all scales, continuum and sub continuum process modeling and simulation, and tribology and wear issues relevant to manufacturing processes.

He/she has a track record of outstanding research and is internationally recognized, with publications in leading joumals cited by prominent researchers. He/she has excellent organizational, managerial and teaching skills; is fluent in English and has a good knowledge of Dutch, or is willing to learn this language within a time frame of two years. Experience in the acquisition of research funds is necessary; industrial experience is considered to be valuable.

 

 

Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience with a minimum of € 4,904 up to a maximum of € 7,142 (CAO-NU Full Professor 2) gross per month for a full-time position.
