KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.
The school of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, conducts research and education at leading international level in material physics, photonics/optics, electronic systems, integrated devices and circuits, as well as communication systems. Our research activity encompasses both basic and applied level. We offer a wide spectrum of educational programs at undergraduate, masters and doctoral level. The ICT School fosters close collaboration with Swedish and international companies and research institutes as well as surrounding associations such as Kista Science City.
Description of the position
The department Functional Materials at the ICT School is a partner in several EC-funded projects and is interested in developing green routes for the fabrication of nanomaterials for a variety of applications – including the fields of energy, biomedicine and environment. The project announces for an Experienced Researcher with duration of 12 months starting date 1st of April 2012. The researcher will be an active member of a diverse international group covering nanostructured materials synthesis, advanced characterization and device fabrication.
According to the objectives of the project the person fulfilling the position will contribute to developing green chemical synthesis strategies with a main focus on supercritical fluid synthesis (SCFS). Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for designing & establishing an experimental set-up to initiate supercritical fluid synthesis process. Demonstrated experience on nanostructure synthesis – especially with SCFS process, surface modification strategies, engineering of interfaces between the nanostructures (nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes, etc) and fluids, and resultant materials structural, physicochemical and heat transfer properties characterization are among the required qualities which will have a heavy impact in the overall evaluation of the candidate.
Desired qualifications
Candidates must be in possession of a doctorate degree and a minimum of 1-2 years of full time equivalent research experience. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a strong background on Green routes to synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials, with a special focus on supercritical fluid synthesis process. The candidate should have demonstrated experience on studying nanomaterials fabrication strategies, interface chemistry and preferably simulation of experiments. Publication record in international journals and conferences is required as well as excellent skills in spoken and written English. Evaluation will be based on the scientific quality of the candidate and publication record, for the required specialty, in accordance with the needs of the project.
