KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.
The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as physics and mathematics, to engineering mechanics with applications such as aeronautics and vehicle engineering. We also offer University degree programs in engineering Physics, Vehicle engineering, Engineering and Education, and "Open Entrance”, as well as a number of International Masters Programs as well as PhD Programs.
Project
The flow control group within the Department of Mechanics is looking for a strong candidate for a PhD student position in the field of modern flow control applied to drag reduction and transition delay in boundary layer flows, such as the flows on aircraft wings. The Stability, Transition and Control group is a part of the Linné FLOW Centre, a center of excellence in fundamental fluid mechanics.
The project deals with the development of control methods suitable for application in boundary layer flows, and included model reduction and control design, as well as large scale direct numerical simulations aimed at verifying the developed controllers and drag reduction aims.
The Stability, Transition and Control group has close collaboration with strong groups internationally in the area and such cooperation will also be an integral part of this PhD project.
Qualifications
The applicant should have
- An MSc degree in Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of mechanics
- Very good ability to communicate in English (written and oral).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Employment
A successful candidate is expected to join the Stability, Transition and Control Group at the Department of Mechanics. The Stability, Transition and Control Group is one of several research groups within the PhD Program in Engineering Mechanics.
