PhD student in theoretical biological physics, S-2012-0231
The department of theoretical physics is looking for a new PhD student in theoretical physics, specializing in biological physics
KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.
The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as physics and mathematics, to engineering mechanics with applications such as aeronautics and vehicle engineering. We also offer University degree programs in Engineering Physics, Vehicle Engineering, 'Engineering and Education', and 'Open Entrance', as well as a number of International Masters Programmes.
The Department of Theoretical Physics focuses on the basic front-line research in mathematical physics, particle physics, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and computational physics.
Project
A ‘local study grant’ for a PhD student with a maximum of 20 % departmental work (employment as an assistant) is announced at the Division of Theoretical Physics, Department of Theoretical Physics, School of Engineering Sciences, KTH, Stockholm in the research subject physics with specialization in theoretical physics. The research project of the PhD student will be directed towards large scale simulations of biological model membranes and biological macromolecules. The main focus will be towards the interpretation of dynamic and equilibrium results in terms of statistical mechanical models.
Information about our research group and our research can be found at www.theophys.kth.se/biophys/
Qualifications
A suitable background for the ‘local study grant’ is a Master of Science degree in Engineering Physics with specialization in theoretical physics or equivalent with good grades in theoretical subjects. Good computer knowledge is required. Some background knowledge in chemistry and biology is a merit.
Employment
Form of employment: Time limited.
Start date: According to agreement.
The salary follows the directions provided by KTH.
A ‘local study grant’ is given during the first two years and five months. Up to 20 percent department duties are included in the employment.
