Application Expert in Neuroinformatics at PDC

KTH, The School of Computer Science and Communication (CSC) announces a position as application expert in neuroinformatics at PDC-HPC.

The Workplace

KTH in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees.

KTH Computer Science and Communication is Sweden’s leading research and education institution in Information Technology, with activities at both KTH and Stockholm University. The activities of the school focus on higher education and research within the traditional core areas of numerical analysis and computer science; from theory building and analysis of mathematical models to algorithm construction, implementation and simulation. Other core areas of growing importance are technology and methods for the support of human communication and computer mediated cooperation. The applied research includes scientific computing, computer science, computer vision, robotics, neuroinformatics and neural networks, human-computer interaction, media technology, and communication through speech and music. For more information, go to www.kth.se/csc and follow the link to our "international website”.

Assignment

PDC-HPC  is the leading Swedish supercomputing center hosted by CSC. It operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources for a variety of scientific application domains, including mechanics, computational chemistry, neuroinformatics, life sciences, climatology, and physics. Amongst these systems is the currently largest supercomputer in the Nordics, Lindgren, a 305 TF Cray XE6 system with over 36,000 cores..

The successful candidate will join the user support team working closely with academic researchers to help them optimize their usage of neuroinformatics applications especially simulation of neural processes on PDC systems and also work with neuroinformatics applications in the context of the International Neuroinformatics Coordination Facility (INCF – www.incf.org ). Particular focus will be laid on improving the scalability of neurinformatics applications, like e.g. neuronal simulators and associated tools, and the successful candidate is expected to spend part of his/her working time at neuroinformatics research labs, like INCF or KTH’s Department of Computational Biology at CSC.

Candidates need to have an academic education (preferably PhD) in computer science, neuroinformatics, or related fields and proven experiences in scaling complex applications on HPC systems. Good knowledge of parallel environments (MPI, OpenMP, etc.) are required.
