Job assignments
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with an excellent background in computer science and human-computer interaction, as well as strong design skills and a good knowledge of gameplay design. Exposure to interface design and user evaluation is also preferred. As for all PhD students, a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject matter and excellent analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written, are needed. Furthermore, since the research normally involves developing and testing prototypes, good programming skills are important.
This position is part of EVINN (Eventbaserad Innovation), an EU-funded Interreg project running between 2012 and 2014 with the focus of developing and testing mobile applications that expand the types of experiences possible due to large organized sport events. Examples of application domains include games, tourist guides, and performance monitors. The project is co-ordinated by Århus University and other partners include University of Borås, Imego AB, Göteborg & Co, and the Business School at the University of Gothenburg.
This advertised position is at the Department of Applied Information Technology, which is part of both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. The department has more than 80 faculty members and offers a number of successful degrees to students committed to engaged scholarship in the wide area of applied information technology. It has extensive collaboration with local industry and government agencies through the interdisciplinary research center SCCIIL, the joint research unit SAFER, the research center URBSEC, and the knowledge arena Center of Visualization Göteborg. It also has close collaborations with the Interactive Institute, a non-profit research institute.
The department is organized into complete milieus, representing academic fields in which research, education, and external collaboration is conducted. The holder of the position will be part of the division of Interactive Design. The division is located in the architecturally cutting-edge building, Kuggen, and located very close to Lindholmen Science Park, one of Sweden's most dynamic hi-tech areas, just 5 minutes from downtown Gothenburg.
Eligibility
The qualifications for education on a doctoral level are: degree in advanced level, at least 240 university points, of which 60 are on an advanced level, or in an other way acquired similar knowledge. A MSc degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related area from a research university is required to enter the PhD program.

Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for education on a doctoral level are given in SFS 1998:80.

Applications should be written in English and must include a detailed CV/résumé, informations of university level educational background and practical work experience in computer science or a closely related field, a statement of motivation, and a clear exposition of prior HCI and graphics experience. Certified copies of transcripts are required. Moreover, it will be very useful if your application includes parts of your own work, such as theses and articles that you have authored or co-authored. Please note also that it is highly recommended that you include or email letters of recommendation.
