Associate professorship in Communication and IT
 
The Department of Media, Cognition and Communication, Faculty of Humanities, Copenhagen University, Denmark, invites applications for an associate professorship in Communication and IT to be filled by 1 August 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.
 
Job content
The position contains research and teaching as well as administration and management according to current standards at the faculty. An associate professor at the Department of Media, Cognition and Communication is expected to do research at a level corresponding to the international standard in the area. An associate professor is furthermore expected to contribute actively to the development of a collective research environment. This includes participation in academic activities as well as research management and research administration, PhD supervision and various assessment activities.
 
The associate professorship is connected to the 3 year old education in communication and IT. The job description includes development, planning and administration at BA and Master level of this education as well as teaching within one or more of the central courses: Basic communication theory, empirical methods, audio-visual communication, communication in context, theory of science, communication and IT-supported collaboration in organizations, empirical investigations of IT, media use and communication in networks, and media as communicative networks. In the application it should be specified what courses the applicant considers him/herself able to teach.


Applicants should also be able to teach in Danish as well as in English at the other educations under the Section for Film- and Media Studies.

The associated professor is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration and also manage research projects, provide pedagogic supervision, supervise assistant professors and participate in academic assessment panels.


Qualification requirements
Applicants should have qualifications in teaching and research within the area of digital media and communication. Applicants, who have documented experience with different types of methods, including qualitative and quantitative methods, will be preferred. Further competences within sociology of media will be an advantage in the assessment of the overall qualifications of the applicant.
When appointing a candidate to the post as associate professor, we stress that the applicant must have research and teaching qualifications corresponding to what can be achieved as part of a successful employment as an assistant professor.

Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on the following:
•                         Research qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to the period of active research and the degree of originality and production
•                         The applicant’s scientific record, academic breadth and depth, rigour, thoroughness and accuracy as well as academic relevance in relation to the advertisement for the position
•                         Documented teaching qualifications, including the ability to conduct teaching in both Danish and English.
•                         Documented administrative qualifications
•                         Research management
•                         Participation in networks – national and international
 
Within a reasonable period of time (max. 2 years), non-Danish-speaking applicants are expected to acquire proficiency in Danish sufficient to teach as well as interact with colleagues and students.

Appendix 5:      Documentation of teaching qualifications and research dissemination (organisation of classes, materials, courses and other forms of teaching).
Appendix 6:      Publications. Applicants may choose a maximum of five publications for assessment, of which at least three of the selected works must have been published within the five years immediately preceding the deadline for applications. Publication dates must be clearly marked on the publication list. The publications selected must be uploaded as attachments and named from 1-5.

Only material in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, English, German and French can be expected to be assessed.

All material will be shredded at the end of the appointment procedure.
 
Appointment procedure
After the application deadline, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to evaluate applicants specifically in relation to the advertised position. The applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each candidate will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before the appointment is finalised. Salary and conditions of employment
The post will be filled according to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
