Karolinska Institutet
invites applications for a

Postdoc in Cell and Molecular Biology of Cancer (two positions)

Department
Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

Area of responsibilities/description of the work
Research in G Selivanova’s lab is focused on the identification and studies of the mechanism of action of small molecules restoring the tumor suppression functions of p53, either by refolding mutant p53 to rescue its activity, or via preventing proteasomal degradation of p53 in tumors with non-mutated p53 (Bykov et al, Nature Medicine, 8(3);282, 2002; Issaeva et al, Nature Medicine 10(12):3121, 2004; Enge et al, Cancer Cell 15(3):171, 2009; Grinkevich et al, Cancer Cell 15(5):441, 2009). To address fundamental questions of p53 biology, the lab uses small molecules as research tools and applies systems biology and high throughput assays, such as transcriptome profiling, ChIP-seq, and shRNA screens.

We are seeking two highly motivated and dedicated postdoctoral researchers to carry out an exciting endeavor aiming to develop novel strategies for improved targeted treatment. We invite two persons to work on the elucidation of the mechanism of action of small molecules, as well as novel p53-regulators which we identified and their validation using siRNA screens, biochemical. molecular biology and cellular assays, as well as clinical material and animal models.

Qualifications
A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than five years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

To qualify, the applicant must hold a Ph.D degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate, preferably in cancer cell biology. The applicant must have more than 4 years of experience in molecular and cell biology, but less than 10 years in full-time research.

The employment as Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be fixed to two years, with possible continuation for two more years. The successful applicant should have experience with mammalian tissue culture techniques and molecular biology including DNA and RNA techniques, as well as biochemical methods. Preferred experience also includes immunoprecipitation, Western blot analysis, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytomerty. Experience with high throughput methods, including transcriptomics and proteomics and/or bioinformatics is a plus. Solid experience and excellent track record from leading laboratories in the research field will be considered a distinct advantage.

Assessment grounds
Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
1) Education and previous training
2) Relevance for the project
3) Publication and track record
4) Motivation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience in cellular and molecular biology and dedication to cancer research.

Form of employment:
