Postdoctoral Research Assistant

The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) leads major international programmes investigating the genetic and pathogenic mechanisms of cardiovascular, inflammatory and endocrine diseases. The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, now part of University of Oxford, is currently based in West London. Work here focuses on molecular pathogenesis of the two major types of arthritis; rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. Tonia Vincent runs the in vivo OA programme.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant with experience in antibody engineering and an interest in translational research in immunology. The post is a 2 year collaborative research project to develop a novel imaging technique to detect early osteoarthritis using an antibody specific for damaged cartilage. It will be a collaboration between the Bone and Joint Research Unit, WHRI and the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford.

The successful candidate should have experience in antibody engineering, molecular biology techniques and experience working in in vivo models. Candidates should have a PhD in Immunology or a related biological sciences discipline, with a productive track record, and have experience covering the full range of duties required for the post.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

This is a full time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years and is available from the 1st March 2012. Starting salary will be between £30,500 - £39,936 per annum (inclusive of London allowance) depending on experience. The benefits package includes 30 days annual leave, a defined benefit pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.

It will be based between the Bone and Joint Research Unit, WHRI in London and F-Star, a biopharmaceutical company in Cambridge developing novel Modular Antibody Technology platforms.

The successful candidate should have experience in antibody engineering, screening of phage display antibody libraries, molecular biology techniques and cellular and molecular immunology. Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent in immunology or a related biological sciences discipline, with a productive track record, and have experience covering the full range of duties required for the post (please see the job description for full details).
