Duties:
Teaching and examination in American Literature at first, second, and third cycles (bachelor, master, doctoral levels). Teaching and examination other than in American Literature may be included. Research, administrative duties, and duties involving collaboration with the wider community are included in the post. Teaching comprises course responsibility, course administration, and supervision. Administrative assignments may include leadership positions.
Eligibility:
Applicants are eligible for employment as senior lecturer (assistant professor) if they have completed a doctoral degree, or have the equivalent academic competence or have other professional competence of significance in relation to the content of the position and the duties included in the position, and have completed at least ten weeks of relevant training in higher-education teaching or acquired the equivalent knowledge in other ways and have demonstrated their competence in teaching and have the general capacity required to carry out fully the duties of the position.
The ability to teach in English is a requirement. If the ability to teach in Swedish is lacking, the holder will be expected to be able to do so within two years.
Assessment criteria:
In ranking applicants, equal weight will be accorded to academic and teaching competence. Academic qualifications must be in the subject of American Literature. In assessing academic qualifications, special weight will be given to research qualifications in early American Literature. Great emphasis will be placed on methodologically innovative research.
Assessment of teaching ability will consider the planning, execution, and evaluation of teaching and thesis direction, as well as examination. Primary attention will be paid to the quality of teaching, and teaching skills must be well documented in a manner that enables their quality to be assessed. In assessing teaching competence, great emphasis will be placed on the capacity to produce one’s own teaching materials and to use digital media in teaching.
Assessment criteria; other competence:
Administrative competence is important for this position and will be accorded weight. The ability to cooperate with the wider community and to inform the public about research and developmental work will receive emphasis. The ability to inform the general public about research and developmental work is shown in popularizing activities, such as taking part in public education activities, publication of articles for a general audience, and participation in the public debate about issues involving education and research. Experience of international collaboration and experience of acquiring external funding will be given great emphasis.
Administrative competence is shown, for example, in the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and appropriate manner, and the in the capacity to establish and observe timeframes. Administrative competence comprises comprehensive operational planning and the ability to work in a structured way based on awareness of goals and quality.
Leadership competence constitutes an assessment criterion for the position. Leadership competence is shown in the ability to lead operations, make decisions, take responsibility, and motivate others and to provide them with the prerequisites to efficiently attain common goals. Documented good ability to cooperate.
Personal circumstances (such as parental leaves) that may be beneficial to the applicant when qualifications are assessed should be included in the list of qualifications and experience.
