An associate professorship in Phonetics is advertised at the Department of Scandinavian Studies and Linguistics. The position is tenable from 15 March 2012 or later.

 

The Department of Scandinavian Studies and Linguistics is a leading national and international centre for research, teaching and knowledge transfer in the disciplines Danish literature, language and media (including subject didactics), Scandinavian Studies (including Finnish), Audiologopaedia, Psychology of Language, Gender Studies and Philology (including Indo-European, Linguistics, Psychology of Language and Phonetics).

 

Job content

The associate professorship in Phonetics is in principle based in the linguistics section, which offers studies at BA, MA and PhD level. The successful candidate must be able to undertake teaching and supervision at all levels, as well as research, dissemination and administration within this subject area. The associate professor must likewise, if necessary, be able to contribute expertise to other courses of study. In their academic production, applicants must be able to document special qualifications within the acoustic and auditory analysis of spoken language, including the statistical processing of empirical data for spoken language. Applicants that can also document qualifications within investigation of the Danish language will be preferred. The position entails teaching and supervision duties in the field of phonetics at bachelor and master’s level in relevant subject areas of the Department’s linguistics, audiologopedics and Danish study programmes.

 

In addition to research, teaching and dissemination qualifications, the assessment of the applicants will give weight to their interest in cooperating on the development of research and teaching based on the subject area as it is practised at the University of Copenhagen. Documentation of these plans (maximum five pages, Appendix 4) must be attached to the application.

 

The applicant must also be able to document a written and spoken command of English and Danish.

 

Non-Danish speaking incumbents will be required to acquire the necessary Danish skills within maximum two years.

Qualification requirements
Besides participating in the activities of the department, such as examinations and administration, an associate professor must also undertake the administration of research projects, provide pedagogical supervision to assistant professors and participate in assessment committees.

 

On making appointments to the position of associate professor we attach importance to applicants holding research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be expected after satisfactory employment as an assistant professor.

 

Emphasis will be placed on the following academic and personal qualifications:

  • Research qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to the period of active research and the degree of originality and production
  • Scientific significance, academic breadth and depth, rigour, thoroughness and accuracy as well as academic relevance in relation to the advertisement for the position
  • Teaching qualifications
  • Administrative qualifications
  • Research management
  • Participation in networks – national and international
  • The applicant must master Danish, Norwegian or Swedish

Appendix 4: Research and educational plan, including a short description of previous research and a plan for the coming years, that includes an account of involvement in organising research, establishment of research seminars, symposia and congresses etc.

Appendix 5: Documentation of teaching qualifications and research dissemination (organisation of classes, materials, provision of courses and other forms of teaching). Documentation that the applicant can undertake teaching in English is also a requirement.

Appendix 6: Publications. Applicants may choose a maximum of five publications for assessment, of which at least three of the selected works must have been published within the five years immediately preceding the deadline for applications. Publication dates must be clearly marked on the publication list. The publications selected must be uploaded as attachments and numbered from 1 to 5.

 

Only material in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, English, German and French can be expected to be assessed.

 

All material will be maculated at the end of the appointment procedure.

 

Appointment procedure
After the application deadline, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to evaluate applicants specifically in relation to the advertised position. The applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each candidate will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment relating to his or her self before the appointment is finalised. Salary and conditions of employment
As per agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the appropriate trade union. A pensionable supplement, currently DKK 88,000.00 p.a., is linked to the associate professorship.
