At the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management, a position as Professor/Associate Professor is available in the Strategy and Management group.
The department currently employs 17 professors, 6 adjunct professors, 16 associate professors, 7 post doc’s and 35 PhD students. The department is organized into four groups:
- Health, Safety and Environment
- Industrial Economics and Operations Research
- Organizational Development and Law
- Strategy and Management
The position will be part of the Strategy and Management group. This group provides basic and advanced courses for engineering students in the following areas:
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Strategy and International Business Development
- Strategic Purchasing and Supply Management
- Project Management
The person offered the position will have a special responsibility for basic and advanced courses in the areas of strategy and/or innovation. The position will be tied to the department’s Master program in Industrial Economics and Technology Management (MTIOT), the Master program in Entrepreneurship (MIENTRE), the Master program in Project Management (MSPROMAN), and the department’s teaching for other engineering and general science students at NTNU.
The department offers several courses in the areas of strategy and innovation. In the area of strategy we have a particular need for applicants with competencies in teaching and supervising in strategic planning, strategy development and processes, mergers and acquisitions, and technology strategy. In the area of innovation we seek applicants with competencies in innovation and innovation processes in existing firms. Interesting topics are: organizational ambidexterity, exploration and exploitation in organizations, culture and demography in technology based firms, analysis of innovations at an industry level, product development, and innovation processes in organizations.
We seek candidates who are active researchers and who have a proven track record of, or can demonstrate a potential for, extending research results towards application in industry, with special emphasis on technology-based firms. Applicants with abilities or ambitions to publish their research in recognized international journals in their area will be preferred. Experience with supervising Ph.D. students is desirable, and applicants must have a preference for doing research in collaboration with Ph.D. candidates.
The Strategy and Management group also has the responsibility for executive and post graduate education in its respective fields, including the experience based Master in Organization and Management (MOL) as well as the Master in Technology Management (MTM). It is therefore desirable that the successful applicant has experience from and interest for participating in executive and post graduate education in the applicant’s areas of expertise.
The Professor/Associate Professor shall participate in exams work without special remuneration. The Professor/Associate Professor has the right and obligation to carry out research within his/here professional field. The Professor/Associate Professor is to be jointly responsible for academic matters together with other academic staff at the Department and agrees to participate in administrative work. The Professor/Associate Professor is required to participate in teaching activities according to the study plan/program and to assist in further developing the curriculum, including the executive and post graduate education at the Department. The Professor/Associate Professor will be expected to supervise masters students, research fellows and doctoral candidates within his/her discipline.
The Professor/Associate Professor is obliged to follow the regulations that concern changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at NTNU.
The total work load shall be divided into research within the field, teaching and administration. The division between activities will vary, but over time about equal time is allocated to research and teaching.
The successful applicant must document comprehensive professional qualifications within major areas of his/her field. Furthermore, the applicant must document scientific competence (PhD) in one or several parts of the professional field with a particular weight on the areas where the Professor/Associate Professor has a special responsibility to initiate and lead research and development work.
Personal suitability will be ascribed high importance.
Pedagogical qualifications will also be evaluated. The evaluation will be based on documented pedagogical material, pedagogical education, presentation skills related to scientific work. Experience with Ph.D.-or master level supervision, and pedagogical background of other sorts. The evaluation of pedagogical qualification will be based on an integral assessment of all relevant documents submitted.
Any person employed without academic pedagogical competence and without equivalent documented qualifications, will be required to attend and complete a course in academic pedagogicals competence within two years. NTNU offers such courses.

Newly-employed staff in academic positions who are not already fluent in a Scandinavian language must within three years obtain knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at an equivalent standard to level three in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided at the Department of Language- and Communication Studies. NTNU provides such courses.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. The employee is expected to accept possible changes in work tasks. Primary residency in the Trondheim area is a prerequisite.

The Professor is paid according to salary level 67 to level 98 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK 45.666,70 – 93.766,70 per month for 12 months a year. The Associate Professor is paid according to salary level 57 to level 76 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK 37.991,70 – 54.550,00 per month for 12 months a year. Two percent of gross salary is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.
